OpenBuildings™ Station Designer Help

IFC

Improvements to and new features for IFC Export:

IFC2x3 Element ID Tracking

OpenBuildings Designer element ID's, file name, and model name are exported to IFC entities. Allows you to easily locate source elements in OpenBuildings Designer model files. For instance with the Select By Attributes tool.

IFC2x3 GUIDs Stabilized

Instability with respect to GUIDs:

  • IFC uses entities that are not persistent in the OpenBuildings Designer model. These are auto-generated during export to IFC.
  • Entities existing in OpenBuildings Designer models, but have no associated GUIDs in IFC. For instance, relationships, void elements, elements without DataGroup data (smart solids, OpenBuildings GenerativeComponents components), and building floor definitions.
  • Every time the model is exported, IFC generates new GUIDs. The exported IFC files can not be compared.

All these issues are addressed in this edition of OpenBuildings Designer. GUIDs are now created for all exported elements including those which previously were not. GUIDs remain constant for exported elements regardless of how many times they are exported, eliminating "false" changes in IFC files due to regenerated GUIDs.

IFC4 Design Transfer View (technology preview)

A new technology preview option IFC4 Design Transfer View, is now available in the Model View Definition drop down of the IFC Export dialog's Output tab. When selected, IFC export uses parametric representations to provide highly detailed information for downstream applications regarding the construction of the elements exported from OpenBuildings Designer.

Floors by Element Elevation

A new option By element elevation is available on the Assign Models to Spacial Containment dialog's Floor drop down which when selected, creates IFC floor entities based on the elevations of the exported OpenBuildings Designer elements rather than existing floor definitions.

Note: The Assign Models to Spacial Containment dialog is accessed from the IFC Export dialog by selecting Spacial Structure > Assign Buildings and Floors.
